Solheim Cup 2013: USA v Europe live on Sky Sports

Two-time winner Liselotte Neumann leads Europe into battle against their American adversaries at Colorado Golf Club in the 2013 Solheim Cup.

This is the 13th time that the female equivalent of the Ryder Cup has been contested and Sky Sports will show the opening ceremony and all three days of the competition exclusively live.

Europe are the defending champions after a dramatic victory in Ireland in 2011 but have never won on American soil.

On their last trip to the United States in 2009, the tournament was evenly poised heading into the final day in Illinois.

Only Catriona Matthew and Diana Luna triumphed in the singles matches, though, as Europe eventually slipped to a four-point defeat.

They would turn the tables two years later, however, coming from behind to lift the trophy for the first time since 2003.

The European team has taken shape for this year’s event. The top eight players in the Solheim Cup points standings automatically became part of the team with Neumann having the choice of four additional picks to join them.

Despite having never won the famous prize on US soil, the European’s will be buoyed by their 2011 success when they sunk their rivals 15-13 in an intriguing contest.

However, if they are to secure an unprecendented success across the pond they will have to do so without former world number one, and all-time highest points scorer in Solheim Cup history, Laura Davies.

The 49-year-old has featured in all 12 of the previous events but missed out on a wildcard pick from captain Liselotte Neumann this time around, with the Swedish skipper instead opting to include England’s Charley Hull, 17, in her four selections.

World number three Suzann Pettersen topped the Solheim Cup points standings followed by Scotland’s Catriona Matthew, who makes her seventh Solheim Cup appearance.

Meg Mallon captains Team USA. The four-time major champion won this competition on five occasions as a player.

She is set to have a strong line-up at her disposal in Colorado, with the top four players in the American standings currently residing in the top 20 of the world rankings.

These include world number two Stacy Lewis, who has won two tour titles in 2013 as well as the Women’s British Open at St Andrews earlier this month.

Mallon has also added women’s golfing superstar Michelle Wie one of her wild card picks.

With the first two days of competition featuring two sessions each day, a total of eight foursomes and eight four-ball matches, before the final day of 12 singles matches, golf fans are set to enjoy three fascinating days of action.

USA and Europe lock horns at Colorado Golf Club and you can catch every twist and turn of the Solheim Cup clash live on Sky Sports, which will be the only place to see all the drama unfold live.

Sarah Stirk presents all the action from Colorado. Ewen Murray, Mickey Walker and Tim Barter lead the commentary and on-course reporting team alongside Laura Davies, Christina Kim, Richard Kaufman, Janice Moodie and Trish Johnson.
