Three more sports begin their Paralympic competitions on the second day of the London Games, including the start of the athletics programme inside the Olympic Stadium.
Double world champion ‘Hurricane’ Hannah Cockroft (above) will battle for gold in the T34 100m wheelchair race; while in the Velodrome, Jody Cundy and Jon-Allan Butterworth go head-to-head in the newly-combined C4/5 1km time trial.
A capacity crowd is expected to fill the Olympic Stadium for the first day of the athletics events, with 11 gold medals up for grabs.
Great Britain’s double world champion Hannah Cockroft was the first athlete to break a world record in London’s Olympic Stadium and now she is back for the first of two possible gold medals in the T34 100m at 8.00pm.
One of the highlights of a frantic day at the Velodrome will be the showdown between Brits Jody Cundy and Jon-Allan Butterworth in the newly-combined C4/5 1km time trial (2.00pm).
Mark Colbourne, GB’s first medallist of the 2012 Paralympics, looks for some more metal in the C1 individual pursuit (3.28pm).
Darren Kenny goes in the C3 individual pursuit (4.22pm), alongside Shaun McKeown.
Scotland’s Aileen McGlynn is also in action, defending her individual B 1km time trial (9.30am) with the help of pilot Ellen Hunter.
In shooting, defending Paralympic champion Matt Skelhon is among the contenders in the R1 10m air rifle standing (12.30pm), while at the athletics, three-time gold medallist Stephen Miller aims to wipe out the silver medal disappointment of 2008 in the F31/32/51 club (10.00am).
In the pool, it’s a brotherly battle as defending champ Sam Hynd goes up against Olly Hynd in the S8 400m freestyle title (5.30pm), with Tom Young bidding to make it a British medal lock-out.
Londoner Ali Jawad’s hopes of becoming powerlifting champion in 2008 were wrecked by a bout of Crohn’s Disease. If he can stay healthy and hold his nerve, gold in the -56kg (6.00pm) could be his this time round.
ParalympicsGB has been dominant in the equestrian since the event’s inception in 1996 and the squad will be confident of retaining the gold medal they have held in the team event ever since Atlanta.
Germany are likely to provide the main competition in the beautiful surroundings of Greenwich Park (3.45pm) as the event continues on day two.
Also, Judokas Marc and Dan Powell are both in action today, following in the footsteps of their father Terry, who represented GB at three Paralympics from 1988 to 2000.

At the Aquatics Centre, brothers Oliver and Sam Hynd take part in the men’s S8 400m freestyle heats, with Heather Frederiksen, Susie Rodgers and Stephanie Millward also expected to be in action.

The cycling at the London Velodrome continues with the finals of the men’s individual C1, C2 and C3 pursuits, with Britain’s Darren Kenny, Shaun McKeown and Mark Colbourne among the favourites for gold.
Team GB begin their men’s 5-a-side football campaign against Spain in Pool A at the Riverbank Arena, Marc and Dan Powell compete in the judo at the ExCeL London and the equestrian team tests continue at Greenwich Park.
Coverage of the latest swimming finals continues at the Aquatics Centre, plus there’s athletics from the Olympic Stadium.
The swimming includes the men’s S9 100m backstroke, which should feature 2000 champion James Crisp, while Claire Cashmore and Stephanie Millward will hope to be involved in the equivalent women’s final.
The athletics continues with the men’s T54 5,000m among the races, with Britain’s David Weir representing Team GB, and Nathan Stephens and Derek Derenalagi in the men’s F57/58 discus final.
