London 2012 Olympics Watch – Weds 25th July

London’s Olympic extravaganza begins two days before the opening ceremony with the Women’s Football competition.

The first action of the Games will be the Group E encounter between Great Britain team and New Zealand at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

Hope Powell’s Team GB side will be confident of producing a strong advert for the women’s game in what will be their first ever match at an Olympic Games.

Great Britain are in Group E along with heavily fancied Brazil and relative unknowns Cameroon as well as New Zealand.

Other fixtures will be held at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena and Glasgow’s Hampden Park.

You can watch all the action from the first day of the Women’s Olympic Football competition across the BBC. Details below:

The first sporting action of the thirthieth Olympiad begins as the Team GB women’s football team kick off the tournament against New Zealand at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff.

The sides are joined in Group E by Brazil and Cameroon, and the top two will progress to the quarter-finals, along with the two third-placed nations with the best records in the three groups.

England manager Hope Powell has the job of leading Great Britain at the Games, and will be aware of the importance of this match, given the strength of group rivals Brazil and the need to give Team GB a positive start to London 2012.

New Zealand are Oceania’s sole representative in the tournament, and failed to win a match at last year’s World Cup in Germany.

Gabby Logan introduced live coverage on BBC One and BBC One HD, with analysis from England internationals Sue Smith and Faye White.

Commentary by Guy Mowbray and Lucy Ward.
