Sky Sports to broadcast 2018 Caribbean Premier League

Sky Sports will show all 34 matches of the 2018 Hero Caribbean Premier League T20 tournament live in the UK.

This year’s CPL tournament, which runs from 8 August to 16 September, will once again see some of the best cricketers in the world take part in a six-team franchise competition, which in 2017 attracted a combined broadcast and digital viewership of almost 200 million viewers, making it one of the fastest growing leagues in world cricket.

Windies cricketers Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard will be joined by global superstars including David Warner, Chris Lynn, Brendon McCullum, Martin Guptill and more in this year’s tournament, which is set to be the biggest yet.

Previous editions of the CPL have been broadcast by BT Sport and UKTV channel Dave, with Sky Sports now taking over the rights to broadcast the tournament for the first time on its dedicated cricket channel.

Damien O’Donohoe, CEO of the Hero CPL, is delighted with the news that Sky will be a broadcast partner in 2018.

“Sky Sports has an unrivalled heritage and portfolio of sports in the UK and Ireland.

“As the number one sports broadcaster in the region, they are the perfect home for cricket fans to enjoy the Biggest Party in Sport this year.”

Trinbago Knight Riders are the current Hero CPL champions after beating St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the 2017 final.

For the 2018 competition, each team has a roster of 18 cricketers, with the top salary slot netting the players US $160,000. 2018’s draft saw a record 227 overseas players, and 121 West Indian cricketers up for selection.

As in 2017, global TV sports producer and distributor Sunset+Vine has been appointed as the host broadcaster for the tournament, a role which it will fulfil until at least 2020.

Sunset+Vine will be producing the world feed for all 34 matches taking place across seven countries, as well as creating all pre and post-match programming.

Huw Bevan, executive director at Sunset+Vine, commented:

“We are delighted to have reached a long term agreement with the Hero CPL. It is a very special tournament. There’s nothing else quite like it. It combines the very best of Caribbean culture with world-class cricket to create the Biggest Party in Sport.

“For 2018, aside from the action, we are committed to showcasing the true essence of this unique sporting occasion and the beauty of the Caribbean. There will also be an emphasis on behind-the-scenes access to players that will enable us to capture the fun, relaxed nature of the tournament and take this to a growing global audience.”

This year’s CPL TV commentary team will feature Ian Bishop, Daren Ganga, Tino Best, Michael Slater, Tom Moody, Alan Wilkins, Mel Jones, Danny Morrison and Mark Butcher.
