Sky Sports reveals opening live 2018-19 EFL matches

Frank Lampard’s first game as Derby County manager will be shown on Sky Sports as the broadcaster kicks off its biggest ever season of live Sky Bet EFL coverage.

The former Chelsea and England midfielder will begin his tenure at the club on Friday, 3 August when he travels to Reading for the opening game of the Sky Bet Championship campaign.

He will come up against his former coach and ex-Derby manager Paul Clement, who will also begin his first full season at Reading after taking over from Jaap Stam in March.

Sky Sports will show two live EFL matches on Saturday, 4 August with Sunderland welcoming Charlton Athletic to the Stadium of Light for a 12.30pm kick-off in League One, before relegated Swansea City start their Championship campaign at Sheffield United, live on Sky Sports Football from 5.15pm.

Fellow Sky Bet Championship new boys Stoke City will also be in action live on Sky Sports on Sunday, 5 August when they travel to Leeds United, who have Marcelo Bielsa in charge for the first time.

On Monday, 6 August, Aston Villa look to overcome their play-off final heartbreak when they travel to Hull City before Sky Sports shows West Brom’s trip to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday, 7 August.

In addition to the opening Sky Bet EFL matches, two ties from the Carabao Cup first round have also been selected for broadcast live on Sky Sports, with Yeovil Town’s home tie against Aston Villa on 14 August, followed by Sunderland against Sheffield Wednesday on 16 August.

Throughout the course of the 2018/19 season, Sky Sports will exclusively show 127 live matches from the Sky Bet EFL season – including the Play-Offs – as well as 15 matches from the Carabao Cup and at least three from the Checkatrade Trophy.

Sky’s EFL games will be shown regularly on Friday nights and Saturday evenings on Sky Sports Football, plus there will be more midweek matches than ever before.

There are eight rounds of midweek Sky Bet Championship matches this season and Sky Sports Football will broadcast matches live on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, with Sky Sports viewers able to press the red button and watch live coverage of any of the midweek matches being played.

Scott Minto and David Prutton will host Sky Sports’ live EFL coverage each week and will be joined by experts including Andy Hinchcliffe, Don Goodman, Keith Andrews, Lee Hendrie, Danny Higginbotham, Liam Rosenior and Leon Britton.

Further analysis and reaction is available on EFL Matters on Thursday nights when David Prutton will welcome guests to debate and preview the latest action.

Free-to-air highlights of the EFL and Carabao Cup switch from Channel 5 to Discovery-owned channel Quest this season.
