The Players Championship 2018 live on Sky Sports

Golf’s unofficial fifth major is nearly upon us with extended coverage of the Players Championship live from the iconic TPC Sawgrass on Sky Sports from 10-13 May.

To mark one of the biggest events in the golf calendar outside of the major championships, Sky Sports Golf becomes ‘Sky Sports THE PLAYERS’ for the entire week of the tournament, which will provide over 40 hours of live coverage from the PGA Tour’s flagship event.

The Players’ Championship has been staged at the famous TPC Sawgrass course in Florida since 1982, which has been the scene of some incredible drama over the years.

Best known for the signature 17th hole – the par-3 island totally surrounded by water – Sawgrass captures the imagination like few other courses.

Around 100,000 balls per year find their way into ‘the drink’ there, though few of those will be from the professionals this week as they play their way around the sport’s ‘fifth major’.

One of the deepest fields in golf will take to the course as they seek to wrestle the crown away from 2017 champion Kim Si-woo. Kim is the youngestever champion here at just 21 – but only the likes of Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus have ever been multiple winners.

Sky Sports’ comprehensive coverage throughout the week of the tournament will feature a raft of original programmes building up to tee-off, including documentaries, behind-the-scenes features and practice rounds.

The live action will commence on Thursday, 10 May with Featured Groups coverage during the early stages of the first round, with an additional option of watching live Featured Holes over the four tournament days.

Featured group coverage will cover the early action and morning marquee groups on all four days, with that getting underway from 12.30pm on Sky Sports The Players over the first two days and 1.30pm over the weekend.

There will also be featured hole coverage each day via the red button, with cameras focused on the 16th and iconic par-three 17th holes.

Full live coverage starts at 6pm on Thursday and Friday, presented by David Livingstone, with expert commentary and analysis from Ewen Murray, Paul McGinley, Butch Harmon, Rich Beem and Mark Roe, with Sarah Stirk reporting at the Sky Cart.

The weekend action starts an hour later at 7pm and following the leading groups right through until the close of play.

Social media reporter Henni Goya will be out and about around TPC Sawgrass throughout the tournament, giving you a behind-the-scenes view of the tournament via the Sky Sports Golf Facebook page and Snapchat, as well as the Sky Sports Golf Twitter and Periscope accounts.

There will also be the Sky Zone studio situated on the range at Sawgrass, giving viewers a unique insight into player’s warm-ups, swing and practice techniques.

Complementing live TV coverage will be text commentary and analysis on SkySports.com and mobile apps, with video highlights, post-round interviews and much more content. Sky Sports News will offer highlights and interviews throughout the tournament.

Official films relive some of the iconic Players Championship memories, with extended highlights available after each day’s play, and these will be available on demand and online.

Viewers can follow the coverage on the move via Sky Go, while non-Sky subscribers can keep up with the extensive Sky Sports Golf coverage via a contract-free NOW TV Pass.

Visit skysports.com/golf for the latest news, features and video from the tournament, while latest leaderboards and tee-times can be found via the official tournament website – theplayers.com.
