FreeSports has teamed up with rugby league magazine show Rugby AM to bring regular live coverage of the Kingstone Press National Conference League to free-to-air audiences on Saturday afternoons.

The NCL is the top British amateur level in rugby league and there are 12 teams in the Premier Division.

Over 30 matches scheduled for live coverage throughout the 2018 season on FreeSports, available on Freeview channel 95, Sky 424 and Freesat 252, as part of a two-year broadcast deal between the NCL, Rugby AM and FreeSports.

Supporting the live matches on the channel will be the Rugby AM magazine show, which is shown on FreeSports every Wednesday. Broadcast times may differ each week due to other live sport on the channel, but it will usually be shown at 7.30pm-8.30pm or 8pm-9pm slot.

Some amendments have been made to FreeSports and Rugby AM’s live match schedule since the original list was revealed.

On 5 May, the live game will now be Wigan St Patricks against Thatto Heath Crusaders. There will be no game on 19 May, while on 4 August the live game will be Underbank versus Thatto Heath.

Rugby AM was founded by Alex Simmons and is co-owned by Leeds Rhinos star Jamie Jones-Buchanan, with a commitment to grow the sport of rugby league at grass roots level, as well as globally and through their efforts, regular rugby league coverage is now accessible to 18 million homes in the UK and free to view on terrestrial TV.

Rugby AM founder Alex Simmons said:

“Broadcasting the National Conference League live every week on FreeSports will, for the first time, give the community game the profile it truly deserves!

“Grassroots Rugby League is the foundation stone the game is built on, every professional player once upon a time turned out for their local club dreaming of stardom. The fact that we can now broadcast a live game every week will showcase the passion, spirit and talent of the National Conference League clubs.

Rugby AM co-founder Jamie Jones-Buchanan added:

“The community game was the bedrock and seed from which my professional career sprouted. Without the unsung heroes of the community clubs we simply wouldn’t have the opportunities afforded to us by the professional game.

“What a continued privilege it is to be able to beam the beating heart of Rugby league and the personalities within, to millions of UK homes through Rugby AM to invite the very nation into the Rugby League family.”

As well as live NCL coverage, FreeSports shows delayed coverage of the Toronto Wolfpack games in the Betfred Championship, with live matches shown on sister channel Premier Sports. FreeSports repeats are usually shown the following day.
