The Clare Balding Show returns to BT Sport

The Clare Balding Show returns to BT Sport this summer as more famous faces from the world of sport join the acclaimed presenter on the sofa.

The series kicks off on Thursday, June 29, on BT Sport 1 at 8pm with a stellar line-up as the former chief of Formula 1, Bernie Ecclestone, drops in to give a rare in-depth discussion about life beside the track, and how he thinks the sport will shape up under its new owners.

He will be joined by cycling superstar Mark Cavendish, Olympic gold-winning duo Maddie Hinch and Holly Webb following their success last summer with the GB hockey team, and trial cyclist Danny Macaskill.

Across the series, Balding will also be chatting to two of England’s Lionesses, Alex Scott and Karen Carney, as they prepare for this summer’s Women’s European Football Championships in the Netherlands, as well as football manager, Harry Redknapp, who is always on hand for a good story or two.

Olympic gold medallists Greg Rutherford and Helen Glover, Paralympians David Weir and Martine Wright, golfer Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston will also be appearing.

The series then wraps up on Thursday, August 3, when England rugby captain Dylan Hartley joins promising Olympian, Dina Asher-Smith, on the sofa.

Launched in 2013, The Clare Balding Show is now in its eighth series on BT Sport and has featured many of the biggest names in sport over its run.

However, unlike the previous two series in 2015 and 2016, this summer’s series of six episodes is not currently scheduled to be broadcast on BBC Two.

Commenting on her chat show, Balding, who is currently covering America’s Cup sailing for BT Sport, said:

“It’s different to anything else on TV in this country. It’s a chance to see sportsmen and women as themselves. The studio at BT Sport lends itself really well to this type of show. It’s showbiz and classy, but at its heart it’s real sport.

“I was doing something with Bradley Wiggins recently and he said, “When’s your show coming back? I love seeing people sit and talk about their lives and about sport,” and I thought, yes, that’s what it is.

We also try to have some fun as well, because I think that brings out an important side of a person’s character we don’t always see when they’re competing.
