Fed Cup: Romania v Great Britain live on BT Sport & BBC website

Great Britain’s away tie in the Fed Cup World Group II play-offs against Romania will be broadcast live on BT Sport and online via the BBC Sport website over the weekend of April 22-23.

New captain Anne Keothavong will be on a quest to return the British team towards the elite level of the competition, billed as the ‘World Cup of Tennis’, for the first time since the early 1990s.

The tie also marks the return of live television coverage of a Great Britain Fed Cup tie for the first time in four years, with live action from both days on BT Sport, while coverage will also be streamed online via the BBC Sport website.

The Brits won all four of their ties at the Europe/Africa Zone qualifying event in Tallinn in February, defeating Croatia in a decisive doubles rubber to advance to the World Group II play-offs for only the third time since the current format was adopted.

They will be spearheaded in Constanta by world number seven Johanna Konta, alongside Heather Watson, Laura Robson and Jocelyn Rae, and victory would send the team into World Group II, the second tier of 16 elite Fed Cup nations.

Romania, meanwhile, led by world number 5 and grand slam finalist Simona Halep, will look to end a three-tie losing streak in April, having fallen out of the World Group in 2016 and losing to Belgium in the World Group II first round this year.

This will be the sixth meeting between the teams overall, with Romania leading 4-1 in the head-to-head and they also won the last time the teams met, a Europe/Africa Zone Group I clash in Budapest three years ago.

With a winning record over Great Britain, a team boasting four players ranked in the top 100 and a home crowd in their favour, the Romanians will be a tough test for the British team, however Konta’s recent triumph over  Halep at the Miami Open will be a huge confidence boost and the team will enter the tie as strong contenders following their strong showing in February.

Both day’s play will be broadcast live on BT Sport 2 and online via the BT Sport website and app (subscribers only), presented by Sam Smith, with studio analysis from Jo Durie and commentary by Chris Bradnam and Naomi Cavaday.

Live coverage starts at 9.45am on Saturday for the singles rubbers and 8.45am on Sunday for the reverse singles and, if required, the concluding doubles rubber.

The BBC will also broadcast the tie live online via the BBC Sport website and app, with coverage starting at 10am on Saturday and final day’s play getting underway at 9am on Sunday.
