WGC-Dell Match Play 2017 live on Sky Sports

The golfing world swings to Texas this week for the second World Golf Championships event of the year, the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, and all four days will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.

With match play golf, the format used in the Ryder Cup, adopted for the event at Austin Country Club, the tournament in Texas provides a fascinating alternative to stroke play, as players face off against one another for glory.

The 64-player field is divided into 16 groups of four, with each of the 16 highest-ranked players placed in separate groups.

Pool play competition takes place from Wednesday to Friday, with every golfer playing against a group member once, then each pool winner advances to the last 16 on Saturday, with the quarter-finals taking place later that day and the semi-finals and final being held on Sunday.

Being a World Golf Championship event, the Dell Match Play also has a substantial prize pot, and as such attracts the very best names in the golfing world.

Jason Day, who recently ousted as world number one by Dustin Johnson, took home the title 12 months ago, seeing off Louis Oosthuizen in the final after dispatching Brooks Koepka, Brandt Snedeker and Rory McIlroy on his way to the crown.

Indeed, the Northern Irishman is also a previous champion here, as are Tiger Woods and 2016 Open champion Henrik Stenson, hinting at the quality of the field.

McIlroy has been drawn in a four-man group alongside American Gary Woodland, Argentina’s Emiliano Grillo and Soren Kjeldsen.

With golfing giants going head-to-head in a format not seen all that often in the sport, the WGC-Dell Match Play should provide a captivating five days of golf.

Sky Sports will be the only place to follow all the action from March 22-26, with Rob Lee, Rich Beem, Ewen Murray and Paul McGinley all part of the presentation team in Austin.

All four days will be shown live on Sky Sports 4, as well as online or via the Sky Sports for iPad app and on mobile devices via Sky Go.
