UEFA Super Cup 2016 live on BT Sport

Last season’s Champions League and Europa League winners meet at Trondheim’s Lerkendal Stadion for the annual UEFA Super Cup clash and BT Sport will screen live coverage from Norway.

The annual curtain-raiser to the European football season, this year’s contest, which is the fixture’s third consecutive all-Spanish affair, promises to be keenly contested as Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane goes head to head with Jorge Sampaoli, who takes charge of his first competitive match for Sevilla.

It is a re-run of the 2014 edition between the La Liga rivals, which saw Real Madrid come out on top 2-0 thanks to a brace from Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo will miss out on this occasion as he continues his recovery from the knee injury he picked up in Portugal’s Euro 2016 final win over France, while Pepe, Toni Kroos and Gareth Bale have also been left out following their commitments at the tournament.

This trophy has been won by a La Liga team in seven of the last eight years, and Sevilla are hoping to add their name to the list of victors, having lost in both 2014 and 2015, to Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.

If the game is anything like last year’s UEFA Super Cup, when Sevilla were beaten 5-4 after extra-time by Barcelona, then fans should be in for a real treat.

European football’s annual curtain-raiser will be shown exclusively live on BT Sport 2 with coverage presented by Jake Humphrey, alongside pundits Michael Owen and Steve McManaman. Match commentary comes from Ian Darke and Owen Hargreaves.

Alongside TV coverage, the game will also be streamed online right on btsport.com and on the new-look BT Sport app.

The game kicks off BT Sport exclusive live coverage of both UEFA competitions this season, featuring the Champions League and Europa League, with the main tournaments kicking off in September.

Free-to-air highlights of the match will be broadcast in an hour-long programme on ITV at 10.40pm, presented by Jacqui Oatley, with studio analysis from Lee Dixon and Glenn Hoddle and match commentary by Sam Matterface and Andy Townsend.
