FA Community Shield 2016 live on BT Sport

Premier League champions Leicester City take on FA Cup winners Manchester United in the traditional curtain-raiser to the English football season – the FA Community Shield – live this Sunday on BT Sport.

This intriguing pre-season encounter is Jose Mourinho’s first competitive outing in charge of the Red Devils and sees him come up against a familiar foe in Claudio Ranieri, who has previously been on the receiving end of of the Portuguese managers ridiculed.

How ironic that Mourinho’s bow should come against the man who in May proved his disparaging comments wrong by winning the Premier League title, the trophy that Mourinho won with Chelsea the season before.

Ranieri is still basking in the glory of the Foxes remarkable triumph, but his team will have a hard season ahead s athey attempt to combine their title defence with the demands of a debut campaign in the UEFA Champions League.

For Manchester United, who have won the Charity/Community Shield a record 20 times, Sunday’s Wembley clash will be their first appearance in the fixture since David Moyes won the trophy in his one and only season as manager in 2013.

Following the sacking of Louis van Gaal after two underwhelming seasons, United have bolstered their ranks with summer signings including Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with new manager Mourinho signalling his intent to restore the Reds to their former glories.

Ranieri, however, would relish getting one over on the man who succeeded him as Chelsea boss in 2004 by claiming the first piece of silverware of the season.

The annual Wembley curtain-raiser will be shown exclusively live on BT Sport 2 and in Ultra HD on BT Sport’s newly re-branded 4K UHD channel, with coverage starting at 3.15pm ahead of a 4.00pm kick-off.

Jake Humphrey presents live coverage from pitchside at the national stadium alongside pundits Rio Ferdinand, Robbie Savage and Michael Owen.

Match commentary will be provided by Darren Fletcher and Steve McManaman, with Des Kelly providing touchline reports and interviews.

Alongside TV coverage, the game will also be streamed online right on btsport.com and on the new-look BT Sport app.

Free-to-air highlights of the match will be broadcast in a special Match of the Day on BBC One at 10.30pm, presented by Manish Bhasin.
