Football On The Box: 2016/17 season TV Guide

The new domestic football season kicks off in early August and Sport On The Box presents the definitive guide to when and where to watch all major competitions throughout the 2016/17 campaign.

This season’s most significant change is the increase in the number of live Premier League games across Sky Sports (126) and BT Sport (42), with BT taking over Saturday 5.30pm tea-time kick-offs and Sky returning to covering Saturday lunchtime games.

Regular Friday night Premier League games will become a new fixture in the schedules, with 10 set to be shown on Sky throughout the season.

Elsewhere on the domestic front, Sky Sports will screen 127 live games from the newly rebranded English Football League, plus exclusive coverage of the EFL Cup (formerly Capital One Cup), with Channel 5 again screening regular highlights.

In Scotland, Celtic and Rangers will go head-to-head in the top flight for the first time in more than four years and Sky Sports has exclusive rights to all Old Firm matches in the Ladbrokes Premiership, while fellow SPFL broadcaster BT Sport will have live coverage of the revamped Betfred Cup, which began in July and concludes in November.

On the continent, both elite UEFA competitions remain on BT Sport, which begins its second season of exclusive European coverage in August with the Champions League play-offs.

Just as last season, the sparse offering of live football on free-to-air television comes in the form of live FA Cup ties (BBC), England friendlies and World Cup qualifiers (ITV), plus selected Champions League and Europa League ties via BT Sport’s Showcase channel on Freeview.

From the BBC to ITV, Sky Sports to BT Sport and Eurosport to S4C, Sport On The Box has the following guide to where you can watch all major televised football this season, with further information about support programming and on-screen talent details to follow.
