ITV has launched a dedicated companion app for its coverage of Rugby World Cup 2015, ahead of the tournament kicking off at Twickenham on September 18.
Free to download on both Android and iOS mobile devices, the app features a host of interactive features, including brand-new kicking game: ‘Kick It!’ which challenges users to try their hand at kicking penalties, including the chance to match real kicks as they happen on the pitch in live games.
The app will also include the latest news, expert analysis from our team of pundits, video highlights of every match, the best of social media, and the latest in-game Opta stats.
Users can filter content by any chosen team to get quicker access to the content they want.
During match broadcasts, users can choose to switch to the app’s interactive live mode which allows them to play their part in the action, voting ‘Try’ or ‘No Try’ on crucial Television Match Official (TMO) decisions, for example, and having their say on other key moments as they happen.
Ashley Fletcher, ITV Online Product Manager, said: “Rugby World Cup 2015 is the sporting highlight of the year and we want our viewers to be at the heart of the action.
“Our app is a great way for fans to get even closer to games, interact with the programme and share and debate with fellow rugby fans.”
The app, which is sponsored by Land Rover and SSE, does not include access to ITV and ITV4’s live match coverage, but fans are advised to download the existing ITV Player app, where live streaming of both channels, as well as catch-up programming, will be available for free.
During the tournament, ITV will launch the Tackle Hunger Together appeal, with the World Food Programme (WFP) the humanitarian partner of World Rugby, to raise awareness and fundraising for school meals worldwide.
A series of special films will air in games on ITV and ITV4 throughout RWC 2015, showing examples of where all the donations raised from this appeal will be used.
Users will be able to find out more about the campaign from ITV’s Rugby World Cup website at itv.com/rugbyworldcup.
ITV will provide live coverage of every single match throughout the six-week tournament, hosted by England, with a line‐up of legends from across the world of rugby providing the very best insight and analysis from the opening fixture on September 18, through to the final on October 31.
