Kellie Maloney documentary to air on Channel 5

Channel 5 is set to broadcast a special one-hour documentary profiling Kellie Maloney this summer.

The boxing promoter and Celebrity Big Brother contestant has invited the cameras into her life so she can ‘inspire’ other transgender people to be proud of who they are.

Kellie Maloney: No Going Back will uncover Maloney’s extraordinary journey, offering unprecedented access to her remarkable transformation as she physically becomes the woman she secretly always knew she was.

In the summer of 2014, news broke that Frank Maloney, the hard-nosed boxing promoter who led Lennox Lewis to the world heavyweight championship, had been living as a woman named Kellie.

Forced by the press to go public with her very private secret, Kellie’s courageous admission saw her become the highest profile sports figure ever to embark on a sex change.

From her emotional and headline-grabbing appearance on Celebrity Big Brother, right through to her final full gender reassignment surgery, this in-depth documentary will feature intimate video diaries, candid interviews and never-before-seen footage of family life, which reveal how this huge transition has affected her and her loved ones.

Kellie Maloney comments: “It’s been a long and difficult journey which I couldn’t have done without the support of my family, but for the first time in my life I can now truly accept who I am.

“By inviting the cameras in, I want to inspire others to come out and be proud of who they are, educate those unaware of gender transition issues and alleviate some of the negative stereotypes attached to the transgender community.

“At the end of the day, we are all just human beings and I hope that message comes across to viewers.”

Nick Samwell-Smith, Managing Director at Initial comments: “This incredibly emotive documentary highlights the extraordinary determination of this tough, funny and inspirational woman.

“Kellie has shown amazing honesty and bravery throughout and I am enormously grateful to her for allowing us to capture such a personal journey.”

Kellie Maloney: No Going Back was commissioned by Ben Frow, Director of Programming at Channel 5 and is produced by Initial, part of Endemol Shine Group.
