Sky Sports and BBC Scotland have confirmed details of its coverage of the semi-finals of this season’s William Hill Scottish Cup semi-final ties which will be played at Hampden Park on April 18-19.
BBC Scotland is to broadcast live free-to-air coverage of the all-Championship semi-final clash between Falkirk and Hibernian on Saturday, April 18, kicking off at 12.15pm, with the match also to be shown live on Sky Sports.
Falkirk, who are fifth, and Hibernian, currently second, are also chasing promotion to the Scottish Premiership. The Bairns have won two of their three meetings this season, both by 1-0, with the other being a 3-3 draw.
However, Falkirk will have to overcome history as they have yet to defeat Hibs in the Scottish Cup. They have been drawn together in the competition on eight occasions, but Hibs have come out on top each time, although a replay was required in 1928.
Hibs’ last victory over the Bairns came in the Scottish Cup, the Edinburgh side coming from three goals behind to win 4-3 after extra-time in the 2013 semi-final.
Falkirk reached the semi-final by defeating Championship rivals Queen of the South 1-0, while Hibs eased aside League Two side Berwick Rangers 4-0.
The second semi-final will be played on Sunday, April 19, also kicking off at 12.15pm as Inverness Caledonian Thistle take on Celtic at Scotland’s national stadium.
Celtic secured their place in the semi-finals after defeating Dundee United 4-0 in a quarter-final replay, with the Glasgow side aiming to win the competition for a 37th time.
Sky Sports and BBC Scotland has shared live coverage of the pick of each round’s ties from Scotland’s greatest domestic cup competition this season, with Sky showing the first and third pick matches from round four in November to the quarter finals in April, with BBC Scotland having the second choice of live games.
Both semi-finals will broadcast live on Sky Sports in April, while BBC Scotland will simulcast the second-choice last-four encounter, then the two broadcasters will then share live coverage of the Scottish Cup final, which will return to Hampden Park on Saturday, May 30.
All of BBC Scotland’s coverage, including Sportscene highlights programmes over Scottish Cup weekend, will available to all UK viewers online via the BBC Sport Scotland website and on catch-up via BBC iPlayer, while BBC Scotland channels can also be viewed on Sky and Virgin Media platforms.
