Eurosport to show 2015 Mubadala World Championship

British Eurosport has picked up the rights to broadcast the star-studded Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi from January 1-3.

Andy Murray makes his eagerly-awaited return to the court in the first competitive tournament of 2015, which sees six of the world’s top players battle it out at Zayed Sports City for the winner-takes-all prize of $250,000.

The line-up for this three-day event includes Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Stanislas Wawrinka, all of whom won Grand Slams in 2014, while the Spanish duo of Nicolas Almagro and Feliciano Lopez complete the line-up.

For Murray, this tournament provides a real test as he prepares to mount a serious challenge for the Australian Open later in the month.

The two-time Grand Slam champion had a difficult 2014 as he worked his way back from back surgery he underwent the previous year, reaching just one Grand Slam semi-final at the French Open and failing to impress at the recent season-ending ATP World Tour Finals in London.

This will be Murray’s fourth appearance at this event, with the 27-year-old having won the inaugural title back in 2009, defeating both Roger Federer and Nadal en route. Since then either Nadal or Djokovic have won the title each year.

Previous editions of the Abu Dhabi-based tournament have been televised by Sky Sports, ESPN and BT Sport, with British Eurosport picking up the rights for the first time in 2015.

The Mubadala World Tennis Championship adds to British Eurosport’s extensive tennis portfolio for 2015, which includes live UK coverage of three of the four Grand Slam tournaments, including the Australian Open and French Open, alongside live action from the Davis Cup, Fed Cup and minor ATP and WTA events.
