Hockey Champions Trophy 2014 live on Sky Sports

A spectacular year of international hockey is brought to a conclusion this winter with the men and women’s Champions Trophy tournaments and Sky Sports viewers will be able to watch every match live.

Following on from the Hockey World Cup in the Netherlands and the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games tournaments back in the height of the summer, 2014 is rounded off with two elite eight-team tournaments where England’s top male and female players go head-to-head against the world’s best for one of the biggest prizes in the sport.

In the men’s competition, the Australians have won the trophy thirteen, the Germans nine, and the Dutch eight times, with Pakistan the only Asian champion, with three titles to its name including the first two in 1978 and 1980; while in the women’s tournament, both the Netherlands and Australia have won the trophy six times, while Argentina won five titles.

First up for hockey fans is the women’s tournament which takes place in Mendoza, Argentina, starting on Saturday, November 29 and culminating on Sunday, December 7.

For England’s women, this will be their last competitive tournament on the world stage as ahead of the Rio Olympics, before the squad links up with the rest of the home nations and compete as Great Britain in the Olympic qualifiers next June, so the Champions Trophy should provide the players with a fantastic opportunity to stake their place in Team GB head coach Danny Kerry’s thoughts.

England’s women have been drawn against three historic rivals across the sporting landscape, meeting Australia on the opening day before facing Germany the day after and finishing the group against the host nation on December 2, where they hope to show improvement on their dismal World Cup campaign earlier this year.

Then from December 6, it’s the men’s turn to play their Champions Trophy tournament in Bhubaneswar, India, where England will also kick off proceedings against the old enemy Australia on opening day, before facing Pakistan and Belgium on December 7 and 9 respectively.

Both the men and women’s Champions Trophy tournaments will return to their previous biannual formats after the 2014 edition, so this gives every team competing both countries this winter the chance to claim some valuable silverware before the Rio Olympics.

2014 has been an exceptionally busy year in the hockey calendar with the World Cup, Glasgow Commonwealth Game and Champions Trophy, and every one of the eight teams competing out in Mendoza and Bhubaneswar will be looking to finish the year on a high and more importantly setting their stall out for 2015 and the Olympic qualifiers.

Sky Sports will be bringing hockey fans extensive coverage over the fortnight from both India and Argentina with more than 45 live matches from the men’s and women’s Hockey Champions Trophy tournaments.

Every England match in both the men’s and women’s tournaments will be broadcast on the Sky Sports network, with coverage and commentary provided by the host broadcast team at both venues.

Further features, analysis, interviews and video highlights can be found on the Sky Sports website, with additional, behind-the-scenes updates via Twitter – @SkySportsHockey – while subscribers can watch every match wherever they are via Sky Go.

For the best in international hockey, don’t forget to tune in to Sky Sports from the end of November to the middle of December to catch every big match as it happens from Argentina and India.

Visit the official FIH website for further information and background to the Hockey Champions Trophy, while the England Hockey website will have all the latest news and features from the tournament.
