BT Sport to screen Great Britain’s EuroBasket 2015 qualifiers

BT Sport has added to its line-up of live basketball by securing the rights to screen Great Britain’s home and away qualifying matches for the 2015 Men’s EuroBasket competition to held in Ukraine.

The broadcaster will carry exclusive coverage of four competitive games against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iceland, which are due to take place between August 10-24.

Both home fixtures are scheduled to tip off at 7.30pm and be broadcast on BT Sport 1, in high-definition on BT Sport 1 HD and via the BT Sport app and online.

The EuroBasket qualifiers mark the start of Great Britain’s road to the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics and will see them attempt to qualify for their fourth European Championship Finals in a row, but stiff opposition will lie in wait.

Bosnia-Herzegovina are the first visitors to the Copper Box on Wednesday, August 13, and bring a passionate fan base and quality to their team with NBA star Mirza Teletovic their standout.

Seven days later, Iceland travel to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and are also expected to provide a real contest for Great Britain, who are coached by Milwaukee Bucks Assistant Coach Joe Prunty.

The winners of the group will automatically progress to EuroBasket 2015 with six of the seven group runners-up progressing too.

Great Britain’s EuroBasket qualifiers adds to BT Sport’s live basketball which is headlined by its exclusive multi-year NBA deal, with the US-based league making its debut on the channel last season.

BT Sport has also agreed a seperate deal for delayed coverage of Great Britain’s away games in Iceland and Bosnia.

Simon Green, head of BT Sport, said: “BT Sport is pleased to add to its basketball offering with Great Britain’s EuroBasket 2015 home qualifiers.

“On top of our exclusive NBA rights, this deal enhances our coverage for UK-based basketball fans and continues to expand the range of our overall offering.”
