The best men’s and women’s teams will take to The Hague in the Netherlands to battle for glory and the right to claim the 13th FIH Hockey World Cup title and you can watch every match on Sky Sports.

With 24 teams and 15 countries represented, playing a total of 76 matches over two weeks, the Hockey World Cup is staged every four years in between Olympic cycles and the sport’s premier international event outside of the Games.

The Dutch city will play host to a fortnight festival of hockey across two stadiums, the Kyocera Stadium which holds 15,000 fans, while GreenFields is equipped for 5,000, meaning that over the 15 competition days, more than 250,000 are expected to file through the venue.

Four years ago in Delhi, Australia won the men’s tournament for a second time after defeating Germany 2-1 in the final, adding to the title they won in 1986, while the Netherlands claimed third place by defeating England.

The women’s tournament in 2010 was staged in Argentina, where the hosts triumphed follow victory over the defending champions the Netherlands, while England claimed third place.

The Germans and the Dutch are the reigning men’s and women’s Olympic champions respectively after claiming glory in London two years ago and both enter the tournament as strong favourites to follow up their London 2012 success on the World Cup stage.

England’s men are ranked fourth in the world behind the number one ranked team Australia, Germany and their Dutch hosts and they find themselves in Group A for the 2014 World Cup with the Aussies as well as Spain, Malaysia, Belgium, India.

Currently ranked at world number three, England’s will be hoping to go one stage further than World Cup 2010 and London 2012, where, despite going on to claim bronzes, they were knocked out in the semi-final stages.

They begin their campaign in Group B with 2010 winners Argentina and beaten finalists Germany, South Africa, China and the USA.

For the first time in 2014, Sky Sports will bring UK hockey fans unprecedented coverage of the FIH World Cup in the Netherlands.

All 76 matches between the 24 teams from 15 countries will be broadcast live across the Sky Sports network, starting on May 31 with England’s men taking on Spain from 4.00pm, before England women’s first match against the United States from 11.30am on June 1.

Sky Sports F1 reporter Natalie Pinkham will present the channel’s coverage across the two weeks and she will be joined by a host of esteemed guests who will analyse the key events.

These include 2012 Olympic bronze medallists Helen Richardson-Walsh and Chloe Rogers, two-time Olympians Glenn Kirkham and Mel Clewlow, former Trinidad & Tobago international Kwan Browne and former European gold medallist Richard Mantell.

Sky’s studio-based coverage of the tournament will be given the full Sky Sports treatment, featuring the use of the ‘SkyPad’ for ind-depth match analysis, as previously seen on Formula 1, football and tennis coverage.

Phil Marshall, Sky Sports producer, said: “We will show all of the matches, all the teams and all the players.

“Sky Sports viewers can follow England’s men and women’s teams throughout the competitions as well as the reigning world champions.

“With so many men and women in the UK playing hockey regularly, I’m sure our World Cup coverage will be a popular part of our summer of sport.”
