The life and career of former IndyCar champion Dan Wheldon will be celebrated in a special programme on Sky Sports this week.
Dan Wheldon – A Tribute will air on Sky Sports 2 this Thursday at 10pm, with repeat showings on Friday.
Guests include ex-IndyCar racer Mark Blundell, former F1 driver Anthony Davidson and sportscar driver Johnny Mowlem.
All three of them knew the 33-year-old Briton closely during their careers, and they will pay their unique tributes to Wheldon live in the Sky Sports studio.
Sky’s hour-long documentary will chart Wheldon’s rise through the ranks in junior motorsport throughout the 1990s, followed by his emergence as one of IndyCar’s star drivers.
The programme will reflect on his finest achievements in the sport, including his 2005 IRL title triumph, and his two famous Indianapolis 500 victories.
Sky Sports presenter Keith Huewen, who anchored coverage of Sunday’s tragic IndyCar finale in Las Vegas, paid tribute to Wheldon.
“Dan’s death touched the hearts of everyone at Sky Sports,” Huewen told Autosport.
“On behalf of the entire Sky team our sincere and heartfelt condolences go to the Wheldon family.
“I’d also like to extend my particular gratitude to (studio guests) Jonny Kane and Johnny Mowlem who showed true professionalism in their contribution last Sunday.”
